This video shows the function  of a larynx with a left true vocal cord paralysis from injury to the Vagus Nerve during carotid endarterectomy surgery.  Note that the cord is paramedian (close to but not at the midline of the larynx ) and bowed, the voice is weak and hoarse.   The bowing of the true vocal cord may also indicate injury to the superior laryngeal nerve.
