A speculum is inserted through
the nose to the front of the
sphenoid sinus. A drill
bit can be seen removing the front wall of the sphenoid sinus.

The patient is a 45 year old, who developed a benign pituitary tumor.
The tumor was removed by a sublabial ( below the upper lip ) transseptal (
through the nasal septum ), transsphenoidal (through the sphenoid sinus ).
The patient had an uneventful post-operative result with only a small amount
of numbness in her upper gums.
