Arytenoid (True Vocal Cord) Granuloma (38 sec)
Left True Vocal Cord Granuloma (left true vocal cord--right side of picture)
This video shows the function of a larynx with a granuloma on the arytenoid of the left true vocal cord. Since the pathology involves the posterior part of the true vocal cord the voice is normal. Arytenoid granulomas are often associated with gastroesophageal reflux and general anesthesia with incubation. Control of the gastroesophageal reflux disease is essential and recurrences of arytenoid granulomas are common. Since the cyst is located posteriorly, away from the membraneous portion of the vocal cord, the voice is often normal.
