Scalp Advancement Flap for Ear Reconstruction
in a Patient who had Resection of a Skin Cancer

This patient had a squamous cell carcinoma of the auricle.

1st Stage Surgery  Shown to the right is the ear defect after surgical resection.

1st Stage Surgery:
A scalp flap is outlined to close the defect.

1st Stage Surgery 
The flap is sewn in place.

1st Stage Surgery  One week post-op the sutures are removed.

2nd Stage Surgery:

Pre-op second stage at 6 weeks post-op first stage.
 

2nd Stage Surgery

Outline of scalp flap to be used for reconstruction.

2nd Stage Surgery:

Immediate Post-Op Result.  The flap was thinned and folded on itself.  The flap was very stiff and did not allow optimal contouring for reconstruction.
 

2nd Stage Surgery

Immediate Post-Op Result.  A large scalp rotation advancement flap was used to close the secondary defect.
